MAPI is a standard Windows mechanism that allows applications to pass data to any MIME email client (e.g. Internet Explorer, Netscape Messenger, Thunderbird, Mozilla) to send MIME-type emails. Clinical applications that have an email capacity may opt to send emails via Argus MAPI which is then capable of encrypting using PKI and parsing the message according to HL7 formats.
